Fiber Optic Tin Cans

Modern day version of 2 cans with a string.

Transmits audio from one can to another over fiber optic cable.

I had this idea for awhile to make a modern version of the old kids toy. This quick prototype is based on a simple kit that I found at the Maker Shed store at Maker Faire 2009 in San Mateo. I built the circuit boards and installed them into these cans to show the concept. I’ve been thinking of making a full duplex version or even a digital version with CD quality sound, but those ideas have yet to leave the drawing board 🙂

The original kit that I based the project on can be found here.
